UN funds reproductive healthcare
TTXVN - 00:00' 21/06/2006 (GMT+7)

Ha Noi (VNA) - The United Nations Population Fund renewed on June 16 its commitment to helping Viet Nam improve the quality and accessibility of gender-specific reproductive health care services, with a grant of 1.6 million USD to the Ministry of Health.
The funding for a five-year project is part of the 28 million USD UNFPA national programme to Viet Nam for the 2006-2010 period.
It aims at improving the quality of gender-specific reproductive health services such as maternal and neonatal healthcare, services for reproductive tract infections including sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, and family planning and counselling for vulnerable groups, especially young and unmarried people, ethnic minorities and the poor.
The project will also concentrate on helping women and children in mountainous areas to improve their reproductive health.
Designed to help the Ministry of Health successfully implement its national reproductive health strategy during 2006-2010, the project is a blueprint for building up the capacities of key institutions in conducting operational research for further healthcare development.
With the support of the project and the active participation of central technical institutions and the Ministry of Health, a national system for supportive supervision and provision of technical back-up from central to local levels will be further strengthened.-Enditem
