Vientiane (VNA) - The Lao Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with World Vision in Vientiane to accelerate the implementation of the Food Security Enhancement Project.

Under the MoU, World Vision will give 20.5 million USD to the Lao government for the second phase of this project from 2006-2010, which will be carried out in Luang Prabang, Bolikhamxay, Savannakhet, Champassak and Khammouane provinces, and Vientiane capital.

The funds will be divided in accordance with the food security and emergency assistance programme for districts and villages in rural areas, which have been suffering from natural disasters.

The first phase of the project was implemented in the seven provinces of Luang Prabang, Xiengkhouang, Bolikhamxay, Sayaboury, Khammouane, Savannakhet and Champassak, with funding of 985,000 USD in 2005.
