Ha Noi (VNA) - The US Embassy in Viet Nam, in coordination with the Health Ministry, announced the US's country operational plan 2006 (COP) to support Viet Nam's HIV/AIDS prevention, healthcare and treatment.

The annual plan, approved by the US Global Coordination Office for HIV/AIDS, aims to specify the US-Viet Nam common plan to support prevention, healthcare and treatment for HIV/AIDS patients in Viet Nam .

Of the plan's total value of 34 million USD, 11 million will be used for anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment, 9 million for HIV/AIDS healthcare and 7 million for prevention work.

Health Minister Tran Thi Trung Chien expressed her thanks for the US government's support in the fight against HIV/AIDS. She also proposed some measures to raise the effectiveness of the plan, such as increasing the availability of medicines for HIV/AIDS treatment and improving the staff's ability through training courses.

The cooperation between the US and Viet Nam in combating HIV/AIDS has over the past time shown satisfactory results, said US Ambassador to Viet Nam Michael W. Marine.

He said the US is ready to cooperate with Viet Nam to reach the CPO targets and expressed his belief that Viet Nam will meet with success in its fight against HIV/AIDS.-Enditem
