Protect children before snared by drugs
It is not an accident that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) chose “Drugs are not games for children” as the theme for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 this year. Children are the first people who need to be protected in the face of drug problems and crimes that are becoming more and more complicated.
Art exchange to prevent HIV/AIDS
An art exchange programme to prevent HIV/AIDS with the title, “a Moment of Time”, was held by the Centre for Community Health and Development (COHED) under the public health research and development centre on June 24 in Hanoi.
Difficulties in job generation for detoxified drug addicts
CPV: Job generation for detoxified drug addicts plays an important role in stabilising their lives and preventing social problems in the community. Only 20-30 percent of detoxified drug users are equipped with vocational training and given jobs after leaving rehabilitation centres. With the goal of helping around 55-60 thousand people give up drugs, job generation for detoxified people will become a burning issue in the society.
Subsidy for HIV-infected children in the community must be adjusted
Some provinces have scaled up AIDS prevention activities and care for HIV-infected children in the community and achieved encouraging results such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and Da Nang. As a result of their successes, some provinces have proposed increasing their subsidies to amounts equal to or higher than those allotted for children cared for in centres in those three provinces.
Improve efficiency of fight against drug crimes
On June 22, a workshop on “improving efficiency of combativeness and fighting against drug crimes in the new situation” was held by the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi. The workshop aimed to mark the Action Month of Drug Prevention and was within the framework of the government's drug prevention and control programme.
World Vision helps Laos enhance food security
Vientiane (VNA) - The Lao Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with World Vision in Vientiane to accelerate the implementation of the Food Security Enhancement Project.
