INTRODUCTION
1. VietNam:
Vietnam According to the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC), there are on average 33 deaths related to traffic accidents a day in 2005. Is it too many? However, according to Tran Tien Duc, Manager of the Policy Vietnam (Australia) Project, there are currently 300,000 people infected with HIV (90,000 have been found) in the whole country. Meanwhile, the number of HIV-infect people was only bout 10,000 in 1995. Thus, over the past ten years, an additional 80 people a day on average fell into HIV infection. What I mean is in Vietnam, the number of HIV victims per day triples the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents.
2. World:
In 2005, there have been over 40 million HIV-infected people in the world, outnumbering deaths in World Wars. And there will be an additional 45 million HIV victims around the world from now to 2010, if we do nothing about the AIDS epidemic (according to UNAIDS sources). But if immediate prevention measures are taken, at the cost of estimated US$27 billion, additional HIV infection will be restricted to 15 million people, which means it costs about US$1,000 to prevent a new HIV infection case. But according to Doctor Bernhard Schwartlander, Director in charge of HIV/AIDS affairs of the World Heath Organization, the price for failure to prevent HIV spreading is much higher.
3. Website history:
This website is within the framework of the “Online HIV/AIDS Prevention” Project, a social activity of VNReview Co. On May 20, 2004, the Ministry of Health, UNAIDS and the World Bank assessed the Project as effective and gave it the HIV Prevention Initiative 2004 Award worth US$9,554, which was used for the project’s initial development. On October 1, 2004, the Ministry of Culture and Information granted the License 419/GP-BC to the Project. In July 2005, the UK Embassy provided US$9,201 for one year’s development of the website’s version and translation of HIV news from English into Vietnamese. Currently, the costs for maintaining the Project and carrying out every day’s tasks are provided by VNReview Co.
5. Cooperation:
We hope to receive cooperation and support from everybody.
