New KZN Aids Council to help deal with the challenges of the pandemic

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government will form a provincial Aids Council that will deal with the challenges of the Aids pandemic in the province. Dr Fikile Ndlovu, the HIV/Aids chief director in the premier's office, made the announcement at the Aids Foundation Learning and Sharing Conference in Durban.

The council will bring together representatives from all sectors, including community-based organisations, municipalities, faith-based organisations and traditional healers.

Ndlovu says the province needs a well co-ordinated HIV/AIDS strategy in order to bring a decline in infection rates and improve prevention and treatment strategies.

KZN is one of the provinces worst hit by HIV/Aids.
